So I TiVoed the MTV Video Music Awards, and just watched the "Best Rock Video" category. It was all emo stuff, or weak songs by good bands: 30 Seconds to Mars, A.F.I., Panic! At The Disco, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" by Green Day, and "Dani California" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers (who are now dead to me... they used to be funky, but now they are so funkin' FM).
What the hell happenned to rock? Lou Reed put in his plug for two guitars, bass, and drums, but seriously, what the hell happenned to rock?
Holy crap... Billy Gibbons and Jack White are jamming on "Cheap Sunglasses" now... it was cool once, but now it makes me feel all hollow inside.
Thank god the Jackass guys are coming on soon... now *that* feels like rock & roll.
Wait... Tenacious D just took the stage, and now they are showing the world the thunder of their friendship. They too showed us what rockin' is about.
And now the Jackass guys are on stage for the Viewer's Choice award... Fall Out Boy took it home for "Dance, Dance." Good for them.
All I can think about the state of "rock" these days is, "Cheer up, emo kids."
The hip hop and rap numbers are definitely better lately, though OK GO stole the show with those treadmills.
