9/11 rant

We won't forget. Oh no (OK Go). We're still flying the flag we bought in the aftermath. We watched the smoke pouring out of the Pentagon, the acrid smell filling our sniffly noses. We watched the helicopters patrolling the Potomac, with F-16s screaming overhead. We were sad, and we were ready to go kick some ass!

Five years later
, I'm still disgruntled about our corporate-sponsored leadership (Enron-Halliburton '08? -- thank goodness, no).

Corporate cronyism aside, I also hate narrow-minded religious zealotry, and I know that we have plenty of that stateside (a favorite tool of the corporate cronies).

I know that all the really religious folks have a lot invested in convincing people that their god is the best, but seriously, you selfish mofos who refuse to recognize the faith of others are really messing stuff up for everyone. And I'm talking to all y'all who can't imagine any world other than your own. Imagine. Just try it.

So, five years later, what does an expert in National Security have to say?
"For all the attention it evokes, terrorism, in reasonable context, actually causes rather little damage," Mueller said, noting that automobile accidents kill many more Americans than terrorists do. "The likelihood that any individual will become a victim in most places is microscopic."
Five years later, I know now that the real enemy is... cars that run on oil. Isn't oil what got us into this mess in the first place?

Let's find better ways to live the good life. It might take a while for the slow kids to figure it out, but they will when oil is $10 a gallon. It almost makes me misty for the days of Mad Max.

Learn to love the hempcar.

Peace.
