Gnarls Barkley

Our DJ pal Andy Caldwell played the new "St. Elsewhere" album by Gnarls Barkley (GB) at Mothers' Day brunch today (thanks, Donovans!), and it kicked ass. So much ass was kicked that I had to buy the album on iTunes tonight.

GB is a collaboration between DJ Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo. I'm not very familiar with Cee-Lo's work, but I'm a huge fan of DJ Danger Mouse (especially his work on "The Grey Album" and his production on "Demon Days" by Gorillaz).

I'm particularly keen on the single "Crazy" (you can hear it at the GB website, or check out the video at youtube.com). Andy says that "Crazy" was the first single to debut at #1 in the UK solely on downloaded sales. I Googled on Gnarls, and got a news result from USA Today just published tonight that confirms that. (It's like they had the room bugged.) The album also features a good cover of "Gone Daddy Gone" by the Violent Femmes.

Tracy, it doesn't look like they've released the album on vinyl yet, but you can get "Crazy" on 7- or 12-inch wax. Of course, there's always iTunes....
