It's a mad, mad, mad, mad March

Kerah thinks I'm insane. She might be right. I don't care.

I haven't felt this crazy since I got that serious case of Pacman Fever back in the 80's. Oy.

Thanks to the nutty readers who joined the pool. Pathetically, the only people who actually filled out a bracket were those who received personal invitations. So much for my plan to create a legion of savagely loyal readers who would obey my every command.

While watching the tournament unfold, I'll share some thoughts. I know, you're thinking, "Oh, joy!" in your best Stimpy voice.

Random thought numero uno:
There are a lot of new commercials airing during the tourney. Noteworthy spots include:
  • Sony's mannequin-casted lo-def theater re-enactment of Christian Hate-ners famous shot against Kentucky.
  • solutionsforourfuture.org spot extolling the virtues of higher education, with a sweet plug for Google.
  • Fred & Barney in Midas commercials.
  • A mildly amusing State Farm tournament-oriented spot.
  • Some smug, annoying cell-phone ads.
  • And last but not least, Comcast's spots with "The Slowskys" -- a pair of tortoises who prefer DSL because it's slower.
In any case, it looks like the NCAA tournament is now a huge cash cow for the marketing & advertising industry. With the popularity of the event, the demographics of it, and the larger supply of airtime, I'm guessing that all the media companies and agencies make a lot more money during the tourney than during the Super Bowl. The intense focus of the nation on the Super Bowl prolly gets you more eyeballs in the short term, but the extended attention on the tournament might get better actual conversion rates and real return on investment.

Random thought numero dos:
There is some kinda crazy screamer rooting for Pacific against BC. Every time one of the Eagles goes to the line, she screams like she's being stabbed. I think she's made a couple guys miss so far. Williams threw up an airball, and Smith has bricked a couple three on account of the freaky screamer.

Blogger is all broken and stuff (could it possibly be overload from basketbloggers like me?), so I can't post this drivel real-time, but let me state for the virtual record that even though I don't have Pacific in any pool, I am *so* rooting for them with nine seconds left in regulation.

I'm also quite disappointed in myself for not picking UW-Milwaukee after rooting for them last year (especially now that they beat Oklahoma).

Grizzlies represent!
