Bangin' SNL Digital Shorties

Yo! Yo! Yo! SNL in the house. Last year (on New Year's Eve, sucka), I posted about "Lazy Sunday" -- the funniest thing to come out of Lorne's sweatshop in years.

They've done a few other digital shorts since then, but Natalie Portman's rap was some funny stuff. She's a very talented actress, and she did a solid job hosting. Her performances in the Star Wars flicks weren't anything to write home about, which given her otherwise outstanding acting can only lead me to believe that George Lucas is the worst director in history. It's almost like he used the Jedi mind trick to make her weak in those movies.

Hell, his two best movies (episodes IV [the original Star Wars] and V [The Empire Strikes Back]) were both directed by people other than Lucas himself. We can see the beginning of the end when he takes the reins for Jedi, and then we get totally Jar-Jarred after that. If only we could see some alternate universe where Lucas had the good sense to hire good directors for the other films, with editors who could cut all the fat.

Hey, maybe that's what digital video is for... if Lucas can digitally edit his first three movies to be worse, then maybe one day he'll let someone else edit all of them to be better.

May the force be with us.
