Kerah and I went to the Bridge School Benefit today, and it rocked! (In a strictly acoustic sort of way.) The Bridge School was founded in 1986 as an educational program serving children who could benefit from the newly emerging field of augmentative and alternative communication. Augmentative and alternative communication (abbreviated as AAC) is the use of other means to communicate in support of, or as an alternative to, speech. One of the parents behind the founding of the school was Pegi Young, wife of rocker Neil Young. For the past fifteen years, he's fronted annual benefit concerts featuring a diverse bunch of rockers from Dylan to Green Day. Today's lineup was:
Thom Yorke covered After the Gold Rush, and sounded just like Neil Young... it was kinda spooky. Tenacious D had a great but short set that ended with an Abbey Road medley, and Foo was fought and fought well. James Taylor was mellifluous, and Neil Young just flat-out kicked ass. A bunch of kids from the school stayed on stage through the entire event, and it was great to see them enjoying themselves so much. All in all, it was an excellent day of music supporting an excellent cause.
