But I do know that History House is a very entertaining site. They call themselves "an irreverent history magazine" and live up to the billing. I'm not a huge fan of history per se, but as cheeky as this stuff is, I'm entertained enough to forget that I'm learning something, too.
Right now they're featuring a great piece on the telegraph. If you enjoy the telegraph story, I'd recommend reading The Victorian Internet by Tom Standage, which is referenced multiple times in the footnotes.
Of course, if telegraphs aren't your fancy, you might check the History House Archives for something a little more your style. They have everything from Alexander the Great to Voltaire, with lots of other snarky history in between.
