I just received my weekly copy of Tara Calishain's ResearchBuzz newsletter, and she's highlighted a couple of great sites this week. First up is Poultrynet, "The Largest Poultry Search Engine in the World!" That was nutty enough to warrant a big smile, and then I saw The Condiment Packet Museum. The ketchup gallery is particularly impressive. It reminded me of the amusing Museum of Burnt Food, and bad-candy.com, except without the, um, editorializing. I started wondering if these collections would make any appearances at brick and mortar museums, which got me to thinking about what kind of museums would be interested in that type of thing.
To find out, I did a search on Google for food museum, and it turns out that there is actually a Food Museum that's been organizing real-life food exhibits for 25 years. There's also a NY Food Museum, which just celebrated its first annual pickle day last fall. Of course, the reigning wonder of the food-based tourist attraction world has got to be the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.
Man, all this food talk is making me hungry - time for lunch. Bon Appetit!
